We stumbled across some cheap airfare and decided to spend a week in Beijing. After 17 hours of travel we arrived at our hotel and were pleasantly surprised to find our hotel came with an unadvertised view. Of a pit.
Our hotel was in a walking district near Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. It was centrally located and full of street food, shops, and Peking Duck.

Our subway station.

China makes many interesting things.
This is not a Mercedes.
This is a cop.
We took a day trip to the Great Wall. We went to an area that was two and a half hours away from Beijing, and almost entirely deserted. It was great! It started with following a path up a small mountain to the wall itself, then walking along it for 7 miles. It was cold, snowing, and hard work but my favorite part of the trip.
